not a purebred??

Question
I purchased a lab from a breeder about a year ago, as he is growing he does not look quite like a purebred lab. I am doing a DNA evaluation. If it comes back that the sire listed on his papers is not correct and he is not a purebred dog should I contact the breeder? I want him no matter what, he is a wonderful dog, but I paid a lot of money for a purebred dog. What would you do?

Answer
Why do you think the dog doesn't look like a purebred lab?  What kind of DNA evaluation are you doing?  To match it to the sire's DNA on record with AKC or just to see if it comes up 100% lab?  I am assuming this is a AKC registered dog that you have, right?

If indeed the breeder sold you a "mix" instead of a purebred, I doubt that contacting the breeder will do anything for you.  What I would do is send TWO registered letters...the main one to the AKC stating your complaint, all the info about the breeder, copies of the papers/registration forms etc., including the results of your DNA testing.  I would send a copy of everything to the breeder so that they know you filed a complaint.

If you want, you can email me photos and pedigree information to browndoggo@gmail.com and I can take a look at the photos and pedigree to see whether I think the dog is purebred or not.  Honestly, there are ALOT of badly bred labs that do not look the standard AT ALL, but are 100% lab.
