Question
We have a 9 month old black lab.  We got him from a shelter at 8 weeks old. He is well behaved and well exercised. We crate him during the day when we go out(never for long periods of time)and at night when everyone goes to sleep.  Never had a problem with this. We have been doing this since we brought him home at 8 weeks old.  The last two weeks or so everytime he goes in the crate when I go out and when I come home during the day and he has peed in his cage. Im told by my tenant he is also crying non-stop. During the night he is crying and peeing in his cage. Im not sure how to handle this.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer
How long are you leaving him?  Leaving puppies for 4-5 hours has worked for us.  if you must leave him longer than that, can you make it back to give him a break?  Could you find a neighbor, a professional dog walker, or even your tenant to give him a mid day break?  At 9 months, he should be old enough to leave at a doggy day care.
