chewing on sleeves

Question
My 7 mo. old yellow lab has a bad habit of jumping up on people and chewing on their sleeves when he is overly excited.  We try to use our knees to gently push him down, but he seems to think we are antagonizing him to play with us.  Do you have any suggestions on how to stop this behavior?  Thanks.

Answer
Some of the better techniques don't work well when the puppy has his teeth clenched on your clothing.  Sweaters are especially bad.  Just put some water in a spray bottle and give him a blast in the face when he bites your sleeves or other problem behavior.  If plain water doesn't stop him, add a little vinegar or lemon juice.  While it sounds a little harsh, it is highly effective with more difficult dogs nothing else works with.  It may help if a second person can come to the rescue when caught without the spray bottle.
