Question
We have a 11 week old black lab named Jake. He started out with a problem of having diarrhea at night. It was so runny he didn't even have time to whine before he did it in his crate. We were feeding him the same food the breeder was so I talked to our vet which told me to take him off the food and start him on this can stuff she gave us along with some Amoxi. We started out on 2 tsp. every two hours up till 5pm. Then we gradually worked up to eating 3 times a day his dry food. As soon as Jake went off the Amoxi the diarrhea came back along with mucus in his stool. I talked to the breeder and was told Jakes dad had the same problem when he was a puppy and her vet told her to give him a mixture of 1/2 white rice and 1/2 shredded chicken with a Imodium A-D. I started that yesterday and then this morning took Jake outside and he pooped yellow mucus and it was just all liquid. We are just running outta things to do with him do you have any suggestions. We are open to anything that might help.

Answer
I am afraid I don't have much more help.  The chicken and rice is a very popular remedy. You might give it a few more days to work.

The logical thing to do is to call the breeder and demand to return the puppy and have your money back.  Our hearts don't always allow us to follow logic.  I would let the breeder know you feel it is very irresponsible to be allowing the sire to pass on defects.  I also would let everybody know the breeder stuck you with a problem puppy.  I regard breeding anything except the very healthiest, well behaved dogs as inexcusable.
