Male Labrador Behaviour (season)

Question
Hi Labman I have a 3 yr old male Black Lab (uneutered), he's very good natured, calm around the house and generally content. When he's out he full of energy and runs until he's too tired. Over the last week he has seemed anxious, crying at the window and generally acting strange (he never makes a sound normally, never barks or growls etc...)Could this be due to another Lab (female of course) being in season as he has a pal Darcy who lives up the road 800m????

I'm sure he's just being a man but thought I would ask the question. How far away can these senses work???

Neil

Answer
I am not sure.  Down wind?  Maybe miles.  At least the owner of a female gets a warning of behavior changes.  The owner of a male may have no idea until the dog sails over a fence that held him for years.  Unless he is an exceptional dog and a serious candidate for breeding, I would go ahead and end his frustration by neutering him.
