Question
Hi Labman

our 8 month old black male lab is really good most of the time, and his training is doing really well. He responds well to his commands, but we are struggling with one area - he absolutely adores meeting and greeting, and when anyone calls to see us, he goes totally overboard to get to them and hurl himself onto them. Any well practiced commands fall totally on deaf ears. What's the best way to curb this behaviour?

Answer
Use treats to keep his attention focused on you.  Have him on leash as much as possible when people are expected.  Don't allow anybody to give him any attention until he is sitting quietly.  If you are by yourself, put him on tie down while you go to the door to let somebody in.  a tiedown is a simple short length of chain anchored at one end and a snap at the other.
