our pet lab-- eating

Question
Hello. Our concern is for our 7.5 mos. old lab. She has vomitted 2 times within the past week, shortly after she has eaten. Maybe eating too fast? We feed her Life's abundance, which is the same food the rescue leader said she had been eating. She sometimes gets a bully stick or a milkbone in the middle of the day, but not always. We feed her in the am and the pm- but she rarely has a voracious appetite. The vet says she is in perfect health and to feed her on demand.  Could she be allergic?  Please advise. Thanks- Kathy

Answer
A couple things to note, vomiting is actually where they convulse in their stomachs and usually bile, foreign objects etc. will come out.  Regurgitation is a reflex, usually after they have eaten too much (drank too much water) and in simple "yurk" spit back their entire meal (often it looks like undigested food but super big as it's absorbed liquid.

If it's vomiting, keep an eye out.  It could be a bug, it could be trying to get out a piece of bully stick or anything picked up in the yard.

If it's regurgitation, it's most likely due to eating too fast, too much air in the belly, or drank too much water before or after eating, and possible too active after a meal.

Most likely it's just regurgitation.  Try wetting the food and letting it absorb the water before you feed.  Some dogs (yes, even labs) don't inhale their food.  How much do you feed a meal?  Sometimes dogs will adjust their own intake if you feed too much and they don't get enough activity.  You could try adjusting down 1/4 c per meal to see if that makes her hungrier to eat with more gusto.
