Digger

Question
My five month old yellow lab is quite the digger. It's weird, he doesn't dig constantly; but when he does, it is a disaster. He gets plenty of exercise so there isn't an issue there.  Is there anything I can do to stop this?

Answer
There are some things I have a good answer too, but not digging.  Most dogs enjoy being out in a fenced yard at least part of time.  Maybe partly because they can dig holes.  The only way I am sure will stop it is not to leave the dog outside unsupervised.  I have seen suggestions of refilling the holes with their own feces, balloons, rocks, etc.  They only dig elsewhere.  I have heard of a pile of sand with toys and treats in it, but never heard whether it works or not.  Ido think they do better after they get older.
