Finding a JR a home in New England

Question
Hi!

I am in a bit of a predicament.  I am away on business, and will not be home for two more months.  While gone, my wife was visiting the in-laws.  Due to a divorce in the family, there was a 9yr JR that needed a new home.  One of the cousins took "Cricket" for two months, but decided to drop the dog off at the pound.  My wife decided to adopt her, and she has been living at our home for all of three days now.

I have grown up around dogs all my life, but my wife was never really exposed to them.  Bringing an 8yr old JR home to a house with a 2yr and 2 cats is an absolutely full plate.  Today, she called frantically that Cricket bite our daughter.  I am not surprised, its expected that Cricket is trying to figure out how to fit in, and what are appropriate reactions to an energic 2yr that squeals (when our daughter gets excited, I swear her squeals can shatter crystal).  However, long-distance training (of both the dog and my wife and daughter) is going to be tough.

If I can't get control of this situation, is there a Jack Russell Society of New England, or similiar organization, that can help us find a perfect home for Cricket?  (I perfer working through these organizations, b/c they are more breed-specific than ASCPA or the Humane Society).

Answer
Hello LeShon,
You're right, that is a full plate for anyone!
It was nice of you to rescue the dog from the pound, and yes, I'm sure he is going through great confusion and transition from being moved around so much lately.
It is crucial that the dog learn the boundaries of your home/style as quickly as possible, and it might even require a professional trainer to help because there are MAJOR changes going on.
If things don't work out, try contacting WWW.RUSSELLRESCUE.COM
and type in [Northeast Region], you will be provided with the name and email contact of someone who can help you in placing Cricket in a better suited home in the New England area.
Very best of luck on your hard decision. I respect that you are trying to do the right thing for Cricket.
