Question
I have a 8 1/2 yr old fawn who has just recently became aggressive with our 9 month old Mantle. When I say aggressive I mean it's become severe to the point of putting holes in the mantle and drawing blood. There are 5 areas on the mantle that i have been doctoring. I have separated them--i have put the mantle in the house to heal her wounds and kept the fawn outdoors--and when I put the mantle out i stay out there with her. They are both female and the Fawn has never done this before with any dog no matter what breed or sex. This has just happened out of the blue over the last week now. I am worried sick that she may kill the mantle. I just don't know what is going on with the fawn or what to do. I need advice now please!

Answer
This is a dominance thing.  The older dog has had everything her way and dislikes the intrusion.  If you want to stop it you have to be the dominant one and make the fawn behave and know her place in the pecking order, which is where YOU say she will be.  She will need to have the same treatment she is handing out, but without the biting.  Load shouts and smacks with your hand is whsat is needed.

We often see this behaviour when a pet has slept with theowner, sometimes on their bed, had any furniture they take a liking to.  Often it is not possibkle to take food, toys and bones away from them.  All of whicdh they should have been taught to tollerate from an early age.  This makes the humans the dominant ones, in pack terms the alpha male and female.

It may be too late but you have to try unless you are going to keep them permanently apart, which does not teach the youngster how to behave with other dogs
