feeding my boys

Question
Hello,

I am the very proud mother of 2 black great Dane boys! They are littermates, almost 7 months old. I had been feeding them Eagle Pack holistic giant breed puppy food until about 2 weeks ago, when I found out that they had changed lamb suppliers. My boys HAD been doing very well on it but started having a huge increase in diarrhea. I then switched to Fromm and they have been doing GREAT solid stool (for the most part) they look great (plenty of energy, shiny coat, all around healthy) my problem now is... One of my boys has been seriously limping, and I'm 99% sure it was not from horsing around, he's been limping pretty badly for just over 24 hours, it does seem to be getting a little better but its still pretty bad. I contacted my breeder who is dead set on feeding IAMS (I highly disagree) until 4 months and then switching to medi-cal until 1 year to prevent growing to quickly. I am just wondering what you think I should do... I am open to switching foods again if its in the best interest of my boys...Any thoughts??

Answer
First of all get them off puppy foods.  They make them grow too quickly and often contain preservatives and additives that can be detrimental.

Go to WWW.bengraftongreatdanes.me.uk

and download our puppy notes that contain a tried and tested diet sheet.

Do not use the most expensive foods as they include the high cost of advertising.  Instead find a 'local' supplier that can guarantee the food is free from additives and preservatives.

Wet the food with water or gravy.  Mix it with raw, minced tripe, breast of lamb or beef brisket (get you local butcher to bone and mince the last two for you).

Diagnosis from this side of the Atlantic is difficult but it soundslike a simple sprain.  If it notbetter by Monday get him to a vet.  In the meantime restrict exercise and walk on a lead for atleast a week.
