Nipping at my pants legs

Question
How should I discourage my pom puppy "Lexie" from nipping and trying to bite me as I walk.  I stop and sternly say "No", then she crouches down and barks at me.  I start to walk again, and she starts to bite and nip again.  I've also just tried to ignore her. How do I let her know this is not a game? I've had Poms for many, many years, and I know that she is still a puppy at seven months, but I've never had one to want to challenge me so much as alpha dog!  Also, when I hold her, she constanly wants to chew and bite (gently, perpersistanly) on my hands until I finally just put her down!...Of course, she has tons of chew sticks and toys everywhere...I'm just not one of them! (She's really sweet and cuddly when she's sleepy! ha! ha!)

Answer
Thanks for the note. :)
It saounds like she thinks it is a game but this can quickly and eaily turn into a battle of egos and authority... you have to stay alpha or it could get worse to where she is actually hurting you on purpose.  When she acts like this just grab her and turn her over and hold her upside down till she is still.  This is a submissive position and makes you the boss of her.  You could also try "time outs" in a kennel when she misbehaves.
For the biting, hold her muzzle shut and firmly say "no bite!"  she will get the hang of it.
You didn't mention her age but under a year old (sometimes longer for slow maturers) is still very much a pup. ;)

Best of luck!
