Chihuahua died after spay

I took my Chihuahua in to be spayed yesterday morning.  She was a little over 2 years old, with no health problems.  She was fine right after the surgery, and also when I picked her up 4 hours after surgery.  After being home for about an hour she became listless and unresponsive.  I rushed her back in and they ran test for internal bleeding that were neg, but said her blood sugar was low.  They kept her, put her on IV, and a couple hours later she was a little better, but then started getting worse again and died late last night.  They said she must have gone into some kind of shock, but really didn't have any answers.  If she was going to have a reaction to the anaesthesia  wouldn't that have been apparent earlier?  They did say she started having bloody vomiting, and diarrhea.  Would that indicate that there was infact internal bleeding from the surgery?  I thought I was doing the smart, responsible thing having her spayed, now she's gone and I just don't understand it all.

Hi Cara, I am so sorry for the loss of your little Chi.  With any surgery there are risks... She could have thrown a blood clot or had internal bleeding.  It is hard to say but yes, the anesthesia effect should not have caused this.
I believe it was an adverse reaction to the surgery.  Things can happen ....so sorry.
