Question
QUESTION: I have a 4 year old chi.  She lifts her left leg and walks on 3 legs when we take her for a walk.  This doesn't happen all the time and she can run very fast when she wants to.  We took her to the vet and he said she probably has a patella luxation.  Is there anything I can do for this besides surgery?  Could I wrap the knee to support it?  What is the best way to take care of this?
thanks

ANSWER: dog limping; luxation of the patella; canine knee injury; ACL canine injury:
Can I have an update on your chi?

Judie - yes, Luxating patella levels 1, 2, and 3 can be cared for with supplements-
the patella of level 4-5 need sugery.
I am sure she must have a 2?  Did the Vet tell you  her level of luxation?

Let's figure she has a 2 or 3 luxation:
Here is my plan for you:

(Small breed dogs are very prone to luxating patellas and very rarely do we do surgery.  ( would have to be a level 4)

Supplements :

Please call in your order : Holistic and sold thru Holistic Vet offices and the manufacturer:
1. Nuvet plus - powder - Just 1/2 teaspoon per day - This will help the patella and other bones and JOINTs - also helps to reduce any swelling ...helps to LESSEN or prevent arthritis, too.
call 1-800-474-7044
tell them you want the small bottle at 20.00 ( THIS will last you 2 months)
YOU want the NuVET Plus powder ( not the wafers)
You need to call in for the 30 count bottle / not sold on the web site store:
here is the web site for your review:
http://www.nuvet.com/81098
Use order Referral code 81098 and ASK about the 15 % Off Program :

2.  Please place your baby on (1) of a 50 IU of vitamin E - Just 1 EVERY Other DAY - long term:
You can find this any place that sells vitamins / this is a CAT dosage - VERY safe to take long term.   ( hide is some wet food or cheese, OR Pop the pill with a pin and squeeze the liquid out)

Try the  two supplements - you should see results in less than 3 weeks.
We can sure avoid surgery with the NuVET -

BEST of Luck guys!

QUESTION: in response  to your response I took her to a holistic vet and he put her on Glyco-Flex II and this seems to help.  He also has me messaging her hind quarter nightly.  She is not limping near as badly as she was before.   She still has some episodes but only after a long (2 blocks or more) walk.  He did not feel that it would go away but felt it should get better.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
Luxating patella?  Can you give me an update on your little one?
Pet Nurse Marie
Talk to you soon...

Well, sounds like you are doing a good job.....
I don't think that I would walk her more than 1 block each day.
You can do a little leash potty walk around the yard.
Don't over due the patella- give it time to repair with your Glyco product or the NuVET and NuJoint Products...
see link above for NuVET.

BEST wishes
