Question

Playful Puppy
I have 8 week old Chihuahua, I got him when he was 3 weeks old. When I got him he was very weak and small. I started I'm on puppy formula and had to force feed him. After few days he got the hang of eating from a small bowl. Now that he's 8 weeks old I started him on Nutro puppy food. I have been leaving out a really small bowl of food for him all day, but he seems to eat it really fast. Can I take him of the puppy formula and start adding water into his diet? I saw in other questions I should feed him 3-4 small meals. What would be considered a serving for such a small puppy? I'm trying to train him to use the pee pads. I have him in a baby playpen his bed on one side and the pee pad tray on the other and he pee's in the bed and the pee pad. He will go poo on the side of the pee pad? I tried using some housebreaking spray and as soon as he smells it, he rips up the pee pad. I take him out of the playpen to play with the family and he pee's on the floor. I'm really lost when it comes to housebreaking him. Do you have any tips? I've been considering crate training. What's a good age to try something like that. Last is there anything I can do for biting.... he likes to bite fingers and toes.

Answer
Jennifer, BEST wishes on your cute little chi pup!  Yes, you can feed more - chi dogs need to eat at least 3-4 x per day as puppies.  When they get older they still need to eat 2 x per day because they get low blood sugar.
Leave out the dry kibble each day before you go to school or work.
Please offer your pup some Wet canned food every am- about 1/3 a can of Innova PUPPY, Wellness PUPPY or Merrick puppy are excellent brands.

Also, most of the Chi dogs that I consult with take 1/2 a NuVET wafer per day-
This is a great puppy and adult dog vitamin supplement that is All Natural..
NO junk or sugars in this quality holsitic vitamin.
Please offer 1/2 a NuVET per day.  YOUR chi will love it...
