giving benadryl to a chihuahua

Question
My little guy is about 6.5-7 lbs and a friend advised I could give him benadryl for his allergies.  I purchased the Walgreens brand of the benadryl ultratab which is 25mg.  I gave him 1/2 a tablet with his dinner a few hours ago and I am now niticing that his pupils are dilated.  He does not seem to be acting differently.  Should I not continue with the benadryl & take him to the vet?

Answer
Hello Kim - he is about 7 lbs so that would be 7-15 mg per 8 hrs.
I don't believe you overdosed your baby..

Here is a neurological test:

You can take a flash light and place it by his eyes and watch for the reaction to light... YOU just pass the flashlight sideways and watch as the pupils get smaller and larger.  If they are changing in size, due to the light, then all is well.

Dosages for Benadryl-

Benadryl 1-2mg per lb, every 8 hrs (65lb dog, 2-4 25mg tablets every 8 hrs)
