How do I introduce my Chihuahua to kittens!

Question
Hi, this is Tanya again with a chihuahua named Link. I had a question regarding my chihuahua with kittens. My cat recently had 5 kittens a couple of weeks ago. I tried to introduce my chihuahua to the kittens, but he seemed to want to attack them. When I brought him up to where the kittens are so he could meet them, he would lick his lips, and he gulped and drooled, like he thought they looked like mice for him to eat. And he kept wanting to get to them when I was holding him. Do you know if they maybe look like mice or rats to him? Since they have the small tail and little ears? Do you know what age the kittens should be before I really have him around them? Cause I'm scared now to even have them anywhere near the kittens, especially if he thinks there mice. I'm not really sure what's going through his mind and I am hoping that you may have an idea what he's probably thinking, if he's thinking there mice or just something to play with. Our younger chihuahua seemed to be scared of them. Can you please try to help me? Thanks in advance for you help!

Answer
I would keep the kitten seperate from the dogs until they get older. Then slowly start introducing them, one kitten at a time to the dog, never leave them alone with the dogs...but for now keep them seperate and safe. Kittens are too small to risk an injury. He might just think they are toys, not necessarily food, either way though, just playing he could hurt them. Don't force anything...in due time.
