My 6 month old bulldog

Question
My puppy is 6 months old and I'm sure he's about 55 lbs by now. We plan on getting him neutered this month but was wondering if u think he is overweight?
His mother was 55 lbs and his father was about 80lbs. We feed him 2 cups of purina puppy chow per day. Should we cut back on his feeding? He was eating about 3 cups a day when we fist got him and he's a hefty size right now. I just don't want him overweight and in danger of health problems.

Answer
This is a pretty hefty boy for 6 months old. When you look down on him, you should see a defined "waist" between the end of his rib cage to his hips. If that area is just round and all blends together, then he's too fat.

I suggest that you get him off puppy chow as he certainly doesn't need it at this point in time and don't go to a lite food, just a medium breed food.  I suggest Eukanuba. It's pricey but for one dog, bearable. Stay with the 2 cups a day and see how it goes.

You absolutely want to keep him in good weight if you want him to lead a long, healthy life. I'd rather see him a little slim than too fat.

Good luck.
