Question
Hello Jessica,

I have a bad news to tell you - my cat died today morning, 18th March.
Yesterday evening about 9pm I saw him really quiet and he was breathing with some noise and also his heart was beating faster. His body was going up and down fast not like normal days.
I was really worried.
Then as I woke up, he was still alive, and I decided not to go school and take him to another vet. I went to a veterinary clinic with mum. The cat was in his cage.
And we were waiting in the waiting room.  At around 9.30 I looked at him and saw him with his head down. I thought it was dead,  I opened the cage, touched him and he turned his face facing me. Then he began to vomit sorry for the word - vomiting saliva and putting his tongue out. I was panicking, went to the nurse, she took him out of the cage and she said, nothing can be done. She still felt his heart beat for few secs but it was all for nothing.
I told her all the cat's story and she said that probably he had a severe kidney failure.
And she also added that kidney failure is always dangerous.
I cried as I saw the cat lying there, he looked suffering this night and was wondering if he will be still alive when i'll get up. But he was alive and then died at around 9.30 at the vet's clinic.

I loved this cat so much, I cried for him. Although now I know that he is without pain. All the 3 years he was with us, we treated him like a baby- he used to sleep with me or in my mum's bed and he was happy with us, so he really had a good life.

Sorry for the bad news but wanted to tell you.

Thanks again for your time.
If you want I can send you a picture of him. I have a very nice picture of the 2 cats together, cause I have another one, browny one. and also had this black one, but this one now is gone.
I am htinking of getting a silver persian - what do you think about that cats?

Take care,

Rose

Answer
Oh, Rose, I am so sorry.  Words can't express how sad I feel for you.  My cats are the closest thing to me in my life, and every time one dies, a part of me that I can never get back goes with them.  It is such a sad time.  I'm sorry that you were led to believe your cat was fine when he was actually still sick.  You are right that he is no longer in pain, and you're right that, even though his time with you was short, it was full of love.  Take comfort in that.

Regarding the silver Persian, I think they are just gorgeous.  Persians are very quiet, docile creatures, so you need to think about whether he would be okay with your other cat.  If your cat is full of energy or tends to be a tough guy, you might not want to get a Persian, because he's likely to be bullied by the other one.  But if your cat is calm and gentle, a Persian would be a fine choice.  One other thing - think about this very carefully, because I'm not exaggerating here - Persian cats need to be brushed every single day.  If not, their hair becomes matted, and this is not only ugly, but it's painful for the cat.  It causes the skin to pull, and sometimes the skin can even get infected because it can't breathe under all that fur.  Then the cat ends up needing to be shaven bald by a groomer.  So make sure someone is willing to brush the cat each and every day.

I would love to see a picture of your cats!  You can email me at red_kittycat@hotmail.com.

Best wishes.  My thoughts are with you during this hard time.

P.S.  I have a beautiful 1/2 Siamese kitty named Rose!
