Question
Was thinking about getting a kitten from a litter of 5 that a farrel cat had. Mother had to be put down and was separted from kittens around 5 weeks. Should I avoid getting one of these kittens? Would they have inherited any "wildness" from the mother or father? and was this too early for them to be separated from thier mother? Should I get a kitten from a litter where the mother is a house cat and stays with the kittens until they are 8 weeks?

Answer
Hi Mary, Of course these feral kittens will need a good home and it sounds like you could provide one so I hate to deter you from getting one.... BUT... let me say this, If I was getting a kitten I would want one from a home that let the kittens stay with the mom for 7 weeks or longer and that they had been well socialized by humans since they were born. If these kittens from the feral mom had been handled since they were born you would have a better chance of getting a cat that was social. If they have been raised by the feral mom, then separated at an early age they will not be as STABLE as kittens raised in a home environment. It may not be noticeable right away but these kittens will be more likely to grow into adults that hide under the bed when visitors come over etc.
