cheek fuzz

Question
My girlfriend and I adopted a cat about a year and a half ago.
She (the cat) didn't have any flea problems until around the
middle of this past summer when we started to notice signs of a
kitty infestation, she was really miserable,  biting and scratching
all the time.  Being short on income we decided to try an over
the counter flea treatment,  sergeant's gold.  A week or so after
using this product (which didn't seem to work very well, the fleas
kind of packed up and moved down her body away from the
treated area) we noticed that she was looking different...sleeker.
From the time she was a small kitten, we got her when she was a
month old,  she had these super fuzzy cheeks that made her
look like sylvester the cat,  you know what I'm talking about.
Anyway this fluffy cheek hair has disappeared or fallen out or
something.  Now she looks like a regular tabby/siamese mix,
not that there's anything wrong with that.  The hair hasn't fallen
out in clumps and there isn't any bare skin.  We were wondering
if this could have been caused by a combination of the flea
treatment and scratching or is it common for cats to outgrow
their cheek fuzz.  Any info would be helpful,  thanks.

Answer
Hi Andy,

It's normal for a cat which is not a pure breed to look different from the time when they were a kitten.

It is important that you de-flea the area that your cat frequent and keep it off the grass patches to prevent the fleas from coming back to your cat.

You might want to consider using fleas shampoo on alternative months to prevent your cat from having fleas again.
