Question
I have a 6-7 month old male cat and he has not been neutered yet. He will be this coming week.  Lately though, he has been "humping" my blanket and its only this one blanket it is a velvety one.  He will sort of "knead" his paws on it as he gets in a funny position and then he starts to do it.  Is this normal? I am really just worried he is going to start spraying before he is neutered.  It's only a few days away but i am just curious if there is some significance with that blanket or what?

Answer
Megan,

If your little man has just recently started the humping I don't think that you have anything to worry about. The behaviors that you are seeing at this point are perfectly normal and should disappear when your kitty gets neutered...At worst it will take a couple of weeks if the hormone levels are a bit high...I also wish to congratulate you for being a responsible pet owner and neutering your kitty to avoid any unwanted kittens from being born...Thanks very much for helping homeless cats and kittens by not adding anymore the already strained shelter systems...I hope that this information sets your mind at ease...If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
