FIXED CAT BLEEDING

Question
Hi.  I have 4 cats (2 boys 2 girls) from the same litter.  They were all fixed.  One of my female cats "peed" on my white computer bag last night.  It didn't smell like that strong urine oder - and it had blood in it.  Can you please tell me what this could be from?  I know i have to take the cats in to get their normal shots/checkup soon and i'll ask my doctor then, but i just wanted to make sure it's nothing major.  Please let me know what you think.  Thank you for your time!

Answer
Carrie,

I would not wait until my vet appt. I would take the cat in now.

It has all the signs of urinary crystals which cause a blockage or a serious urinary tract infection. Both are painful and the cat associates the litterbox with pain which is why they go other places.

Urinary crystals are usually caused by too much fish or fish products which is high in magnesium and 'bargain brand' dry catfood which is too high in ash.

If it is either of those, the vet may put her on a special diet or a dry catfood that is specifically for that problem because they can be reoccurring.

Also cats after they are fixed usually do not have very much odor to their urine outside of the normal amnonia smell.
