Female Cat Bleeding in Heat

Question
My female cat is bleeding and is in heat. She seems fine, otherwise, is eating, likes to follow me around, but I have noticed spots of blood. She keeps cleaning herself. She is 8 years old, is strictly a house cat and is no where available to male cats. She has not had any accidents. I cannot afford vet. I am located in the Bronx, New York. Thank you

Answer
Lucy,

Bleeding could indicate an infection or uterine cancer. You need to take her to the vet. Cats should be spayed even if they live indoors because uterine cancer is a risk. If you don't have money right now ask them if they take payments, credit card or pay in installments. Also there are some organizations that may be able to help such as www.imom.org

Good luck
