do cats eat their young?

Question
do cats eat their young? and for what reason? how often does this happen?

Answer
Hi Jessica,

In a word - no, cats do not eat kittens.  Female cats occasionally reject newborn kittens because they instinctively know that the kitten will not survive and so they expend their efforts on the healthy kittens in the litter, but they kill them by refusing to feed them rather than attacking or eating them.

Hope this is helpful.

Take care
