Question
Hi,

I was wondering if you could could answer a question about some interesting behaviour from my girl kitten. She is about 10-11 months old, and every time I have a shower, she sits on the bathmat on the floor in front of the shower with her little paws down, and waits for me. She does this without fail, even if I'm in there for a while, almost like something a dog would do. I have a boy kitten the same age, and he never does this. I was wondering whether this is just a sign of affection, or whether she is waiting for me to do something for her...or what it could be. When I get out she generally rubs up against me or tries to clean the water off my legs/feet.

Answer
Laura,

I would take this as a sign of affection.  Cats like people are individuals with individual personalities.  Similarly, they show affection in different ways.

One myth of cat "independence" is that cats tend to be aloof.  This has not been my experience.  Normally cats show lots of affecdtion for their human owners.

I am also assuming that the 10-11 month old female kitten is spayed.  If not, she is at an age where spaying would be a very wise thing to do.

Best regards... Norm.
