cats spitful behavior

Question
My cat, who is 16 years old has been waking me up at 4:30 AM to feed her.  This is very new ( used to be 6 AM )  I tried feeding her later at night thinking this was the problem, but she still insists on the 4:30 AM wake up.  Twice in the last month, I refused to get up.  BOTH times she went to the bathroom right next to me ( her litter box is downstairs ).  It is not a coinincidence that she did this.  Now when she jumps on me etc to get me up, I do so.  How can I change this behavior

Answer
Allen,

At 16 your cat is considered geriatric.  I wonder if she has a medical problem which has changed her litter box behavior somewhat.

You might also consider putting a litter pan upstairs as well.

Also, you need to clean up her mistakes with an enzyme based cleaner specifically for pet stains and pet odors (available at most pet supermarkets or farm stores).

Best regards... Norm.
