Question
QUESTION: I just noticed some wet spots on the floor and of course i checked my kitten to see if maybe she was wet. And i noticed my liquid discharging from her. I have been going around cleaning this. I am curious to what this is. And will it leave a smell of urine like male cats

ANSWER: April,

How old is your kitten? When was she last checked by a vet? It is a possibility that what you are seeing is the effect of a bladder infection where she is having some problems controlling the flow of urine. I would suggest that you have her urine checked for infection as urinary tract infections are very painful. Cats don't usually have vaginal discharge to indicate that they are in heat....The indications that a cat is in heat are: paddling her rear feet and presenting her rear, becoming much more vocal than usual, in some cases becoming much more affectionate than usual, having more of a desire to slip out the door....These are not things that you mention so I am inclined to assume that she has some sort of an infection, either in her vagina or in her urinary tract so I would not waste any time getting her to the vet. I hope that this answers your question. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again.

QUESTION: I have an appointmen to have my cat done on monday. So I am hoping that there is no other problum. I am wondering if they will check her before they procede in doing her surg..

ANSWER: April,

Make sure that you tell the vet performing the spay that your cat has had smelly vaginal discharge. They can still do the spay they just need to make some extra preparations to ensure that they don't unintentially spread the infection elsewhere in her body if there is one. You may find that if your kitten is in heat or had an infection her spay may cost a bit more than an uncomplicated spay, but other than that all should work out fine. QUESTION: the clear discharge was not smelly. nor could i tell.
I dunno lol. IM so worried. because i know she is in heat. this is her first time. SOooooooooooo
I dont know what to expect this is my first kitten and i love her. So im hoping it is nothing serious. But ill let u know the end result on monday

Answer
April,

You mentionned in your first question that there was a smell to your kitten's discharge. In any event, mention to the vet what you have been seeing so that they are prepared if something unforeseen happens during the spay surgery. I am looking forward to hearing how everything went on Monday and being able to congratulate you on doing the most responsible thing that you can do as a pet owner.
