Question
We just brought a female 2years old cat to
our home, which we have a 15 year old
male, he keeps hissing at her, nothing
more aggressive than that. He is very
upset, what can we do???

Answer
Hi Franciele,
Thank you for your inquiry.  Bringing another cat into
the household, you can expect some hissing and spitting
from your resident kitty.  He may hiss at her for a few
days, but will eventually become accustomed to her, and
all will be well.  If he actually becomes a little aggressive,
like swatting or chasing her, just let them work it out.
His inhospitable behaviour shouldn't last more than a week,
while the adjustment is made.  I have personally had a cat
who never really warmed up to the new addition, but just
tolerated her the entire time I had her.  And then, I've
also had those that got past the awkward introduction phase
quickly, and became very good buddies.
So, just give him some time and space, and allow him to adjust, and
all should be well.
Again, thank you for using All Experts, and I hope this has
been helpful for you.
Best of luck to you and your fur-kids!
