Having kittens

Question
Hi I have a cat about 1 1/2 years old.  She had one kitten last night.  But she looked big enough to have more.  This morning got her to come out and eat a little and drink.  Only one kitten.  Is it possible she could still have more?

Answer
Mary,

Sometimes the uterus takes a long time to shrink, and sometimes the cat may wait up to 24 hours between kittens.  If you are not sure or she appears to be finished, I would take the cat to the vet for a shot of oxytocin.  This will help shrink the uterus, help the uterus produce anything that may still be in there, and help with milk production.  A shot of long acting penicillin G would not be a bad idea either.

Best regards... Norm.
