Queen and litter

Question
yesterday i started fostering a queen and a 3 day old litter of kittens. The kittens are all healthy but the mother seems to be bleeding in small amount from her vagina. Is this normal? i have never had a cat with a litter so young.

Also the queen has not been to the toilet since i've got her, it has been a day, should i be worried? She is eating and drinking very well.

Thank you!!!

Answer
Hi Lisa, Thank you for the email. The "eating and drinking well" is always a really good sign. Most moms have stopped bleeding by day 3... hmmm.... I hate to suggest you drag her into the vet when she is really better off not to be moved when she has these young babies. So, I am going to say to "leave it for one more day"> That will give you a better chance to see how she is doing and make a better judgment about this discharge. Re her stools. When the cats start feeding the kittens they are losing a lot of fluid, plus she has lost a lot of fluid during delivery. This can cause the stool to become hard and cats to get constipated. I would suggest you give her a lot of canned food and lots of fresh water for a day or so. Also you can even mix some water in with the canned food to make it more runny and to have her get some more fluid down her. A bit of pure pumpkin mixed in with the food is also helpful for this situation. Are the kittens doing well?? they should be growing every day. If they are doing well it can be an indicator that mom is also doing well !!
Get back to me tomorrow.. or later tonight.. ok??
