Follow - up from - 11 yr old cat pooping on carpet and other issues

Question
Carol,
I wrote to you back on 4/4 about my cat and some of his issues.  I took him to the vet on 4/12 and had a complete bloodd work up and physcial check done. He had went from being an 11 lb cat to 6lbs 15 oz. All came back clean except having high white blood count, which the vet gave him an antibotic.  He went back to the vet on 4/18 for xrays because my daughter wanted a more conclusive answer. During the physcial exam the vet was finally able to detect a tumor. The xray showed 2 more. It was conclusive that my cat has cancer that is causing the diarrhea and vomiting. My daughter needed more time to process this information, so she asked the vet to give him a shot for comfort.  We will be taking him back to the vet on 4/26 to have him put down.  He is miserable and has no quality of life anymore. Again I wanted to thank you for giving of your time and helping me when I so desperately needed answers.

Answer
Christina,

I'm SO sorry about your poor kitty! I know it is heartbreaking for you and your daughter. There never is a good time to put a 4-legged member of your family to sleep, but when his quality of life is gone it's for the best.

He knows he was loved and that is the important thing. When it's time say goodbye, grieve, and go on. That is all you can do.

No other cat will replace him in your heart, but when the time is right maybe you can get another kitty (or two) so the house and your heart isn't so empty. You give an unwanted kitty (maybe an older one) a chance to have a home and be loved. A chance that it might otherwise never have.

Also refer to the links in my previous answer for pet grief support. Sometimes they can be very helpful.

Again, I'm sorry.
