QuestionHi Karen,
I have a 8 yr. old female cat which I have had for 6 yrs. She's a wonderful, gentle and calm cat. I have throw rugs in my back room to help with the snow on people's shoes. The other day I noticed a smell and saw that the rugs were saturated and smelled terribly of urine. I put those rugs in the wash and put just a junky towel down and overnight she peed on the towel also. I came home from work and she pooped on the rug.
No change in routine. My family is gone the entire day (work & school). My husband did try to bring another 3 yr. old female cat in about 2 months ago, but the other cat was so aggressive that we took it back. So it's been about 2 months free of the other cat.
Someone mentioned maybe depression. She's definitely not depressed....the good thing about the other cat leaving is the kids play with her a lot more and she gets lots of attention. Someone also said maybe putting moth balls under the throw rugs so she avoids peeing again.
I don't like doing this, but for now during the day and at night I put her in the basement with her food and litter box. It is nice and warm and she has plenty of room. I don't want to clean up pee all the time.
I would appreciate any advice. Thanks again.
Angel
AnswerHi Angel,
Usually cats change their litter habits when they are sick. I would take her to the vet to have her checked out. You also have to clean the area she has been using with a good cat urine cleaner. If she can smell her urine she may go there again. You can also try this stuff. http://www.preciouscat.com/
It works great. Good luck and write back to me to let me know how she is doing.
