Mother Cat not finished giving birth?

16:13:42

Question
Our mama cat gave birth to one kitten last night (Saturday, 26 May), and only one. She was way to large to have only 1, and is still pretty big. I think I can feel a couple of more backs in there. What now? Will she try again or are the kittens dead? Of course it's the holiday weekend...

Answer
Katherine,

I have heard of cats giving birth to the kittens out of one horn of the uterus and then shutting down and waiting a day or two before giving birth to the other kittens from the other horn of the uterus.  At this point, with no access to a vet (unless you want to try an emergency vet for big bucks), I would see if she goes back into labor.  If she is not distressed and not trying to birth the kittens, at this point, you may as well wait until Tuesday to take her in.  I wish I could answer all your questions, but without X-rays or ultra-sound, there is no way of knowing what is going on in there if anything.

BTW, I have had females as big as a house produce only one kitten.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards... Norm.

PS: Thank you for the update.  I am glad all went well!!!!!

Best regards... Norm.
