a sore on cats tail

my 9 year old cat has a sore on her tail.she doesn't complain. it's about the size of a quarter and it looks like  underneath of a mushroom, it started the size of a dime with puss and blood, i am keeping it clean, asked a pet store for suggestion,  polisporin might help it's not

It sounds like it could be an abscess or "stud tail" or any one of a number of other possibilities.  In any case, I would take your kitty to a vet and not a pet store to see what is really going on.  Then the vet can give you a more appropriate treatment than a general mild antibiotic.
