Cat a cat stop labor??

15:48:49

Question
My cat had 3 kittens in 3 hours. Having one about every hour. After the third one had arrived she was still having contractions. It seemed as if she was about to deliver a fourth one when my sister arrived. As of then which was about an hour and a half ago she stopped all contractions completely. I have done a lot of research and I do know that it is possible for them to stop labor. The other three little kittens are doing very well. How long can she go until she starts going into labor again. I'm not even sure that there is another kitty but I thought since she was having more contractions that were about two minutes apart that she would be having another one. Any information will be very helpful. Thank you, Jessica

Answer
Jessica,

Those last contractions may have been delivering a placenta.

I have seen cats shut down for 24 hours after emptying one horn of the uterus and starting up again to empty the second horn.

However, if it were my kitty, I would take her to the vet for a post natal checkup and get a shot of oxytocin.  The vet can see if there are any kittens left. BTW, the oxytocin will clean out the uterus, help shrink it, and help with milk production.

Best regards... Norm.
