Cat not using the liter box

For the past few days my older car (3 years) has been going to the bathroom in the shower. So at night I shut the bathroom door and this morning he went in our closet. King has never had a problem using his liter box. Typically he is the one to clean up after our younger cat Lucky.

We just switched to an all enclosed liter box. We are not sure if he is not liking the new liter box. This is very uncommon behavior for him.
What should we do?

this sort of behavior usually happens when something has changed which has upset the cat. they will often use their urine etc as scent markers as a way of marking their territory but also to make the home smell more like them which helps to calm them down and feel more secure again.

I would recommend a few days of confinement training with the new litter box. this will help to build the cats confidence with it as well as reducing the amount of anxiety he may be feeling in his home as a whole.
