Question
Hi, I'm Shannon I have had my cat Daytona for 5 years now. He was a very loving easy going, cat.All of a sudden he has gotten very aggressive with me and my roommates. Mainly at night, when I go to bed he strattles my arm and needs and then bites the back of my hand and he won't let go. Now its not playing because he sometimes breaks the skin. Just recently I have notice he has gotten an erection, but I only saw that once. What would cause that kind of aggression? He has never tried to hurt me before? I also noticed that before he does it he needs around me and lets out a really loud cry. I don't know what to do. Sometimes he doesn't hurt me but other times he does. Daytona was fixed when he was 8 mths and he has never tried anything with a female cat so what could be going on? Should I worry and fear my cat that he might hurt me or someone else?
Thank you for your time,
Shannon

Answer
Shannon,

Some male cats when they are neutered start reacting to a female in heat in the neighborhood. Some act like yours, some hump stuffed animals, people's legs, and other animals.
They can smell a female through walls that is even blocks away. You shouldn't punish him because it is just nature, but you should try to get his mind off of it by distracting him somehow.

He probably could use a kitty friend to keep him company and to play with him. He could act out with a kitty friend instead of you.

Also to think about, when a cat obviously changes his personality and behavior for an unknown reason, it could mean a medical issue and it would be good to take him to a vet to rule out that possibility.
