Abondoned Kitten

Question
About 1 month ago I found a kitten which we estimated to be 1 or
2 days old.We took the kitted to the vet and got some mother
replacement milk and its been suckling and doing very well since.
I am now slowly trying to wean it to solids and i understand this
procedure may take a while.
Unfortunatly it is not possible to keep the cat as i have two dogs
which i belive will harm the kitten, given the chance.
My question is, what is a good age to give the kitten up for
adoption? The longer I keep the cat the harder it will be to give him
away.

Answer
Wendy, thank you for taking in this baby and making the right decisions for him!

In general, I recommend kittens don't go to new homes until 12 weeks.  However, that's because they've got lots of learning and nursing left to do with their mother.

In the case of orphans, as soon as they're eating solid food and are completely off the bottle, and you're convinced his litter habits are solid, he can go to a new home.  This is usually about 6 weeks old.  Just make sure the new owner starts him on the same food you're feeding him.  His belly is extra sensitive at this age.  Food changes should be made over the course of a couple weeks.
