what to feed my elderly cat with kidney problems

Question
I have a 14 year old cat named Griffey. Currently I feed my cat Pet Promise (Weight and Aging on the bag) for his dry food. Griffey gets fed Fancy Feast - elegant medleys for his wet food. He and his brother share 4 cans a day. Griffey has kidney problems, and should not be eating Fancy Feast cans. But I tried to take him off Fancy Feast, and he stopped eating. He is a very slender cat anyway. My dilemma is that I want to keep him happy and he LOVES his Fancy Feast but I am not aware of another canned food that he will eat that is ok for his kidneys. He can't eat food with fish in it. Also, he prefers gravy. My brave kitty has a cyst in his liver that gets drained every couple of months, so  I really try to keep him happy.

Answer
Wow Barbara - I have some food for you to cook for him - the Fancy feast is not good for him.  I bet he will like MOMMA cooking for him. They both can have this recipe...
Also, please start them both on the NuVET Feline formula - it is a powder you hide in the food / Just 1/2 teaspoon per day - per cat -
HELPS the immune system and KEEPS the vet away.

Poor little Griffey has been through a lot!

Recipe:
Feline Diet for Kidney Problems

1 1/3 cups (2/3 pound) ground chicken, OR  turkey
4 cups cooked white rice
4 eggs
2 tablespoons cold-pressed safflower, soy or corn oil
1,500 milligrams calcium  ( Tums is fine to use)
1/8 teaspoon iodized salt

5,000 IU vitamin A  *
( NUVET Feline has this ... Don't need A)
Taurine **  ( Don't need if you use NuVET)
The NuVET has this , also...
( NUVET for CATS is an option - see below)

Mix everything together in a large bowl.  ** mix all but the vitamins together, bake about 20 minutes in a moderate oven and then wait until it cools to mix in the vitamins.  Occasionally, substitute 1 to 3 teaspoons of liver for part of the meat.
