Question
I had asked about my 3 month old cat a few days ago,(you said I should put her in the bathroom, but instead I got a large cage) this morning I fed her by hand and she ate and I will do this 3 times a day. Now what I need to know what is good for her to eat?

Answer
Hi Judy,

Good stuff!  Glad to hear she is eating from your hand, that is a huge step!  If she is comfortable with it and doesn't freak out I would try to cuddle her a bit.  Watch her body language closely though, if she is stiff and wide eyed put her back down (This is when they would bite).

I am a strong supporter of a raw diet, for lots of info on this and how to do it you can go to www.catnutrition.org this is what they would eat in the wild and in my opinion the best food for them.  I have been feeding raw for over 5 yrs and can not say enough good things about it.  I am going to paste below a previous response concerning raw food and what it's done for my cats.

Alternately I recommend a food called Evo which is a grain free dry food.  There is also a wet food that is grain free called Wysong.  You'll have to call around to find these foods in your area but they are worth it for the health of your kitten.

Good luck and kudo's to you for taking this kitten on and giving her a better life.  See below for more info on raw.

This sounds exactly like he is allergic to his 'perscription' food.  Benedryl would help but getting him OFF that food would be even better.

Have you ever looked into a raw diet?  At the risk of getting sued by all the pet food companies and vets out there I am going to explain something.  ;)  Vets are trained, in part, by the pet food companies while they are in school so they push those foods once they get out.  Your cats issues were caused by commercial foods and now to 'fix' it they are making you buy an even more expensive food to remedy the problem that such foods caused in the first place.  The whole thing is a viscous circle and it is an absolute travesty what commercial foods are doing to the health of our pets.  Cats never would have survived all these years with all these illnesses in the wild, so guess where they're coming from?!  But vets will never admit (NOt all but certainly most) as it would almost put them out of bussiness.  I breed cats and since I have been feeding raw my vet bills have gone down to literally 1/8th of what they used to be!!!  What I do pay for now is mostly spays and routine stuff not illness...

Please at least look into a raw diet for your kitty, I will guarantee that raw will if not completely illiminate the problem will at least greatly improve it.  A great resource is a yahoo group called rawpaws, it's a group of raw feeders who are more than willing to help out a newbie.  To subscribe send a message to rawpaws-subscribe@yahoogroups.com , I have no affiliation with this group just a member.  There is also www.catnutrition.org that also has some great info as well as www.blakkats.com

An absolutely outstanding, eye opening book about natural care is by Dr Marty Goldstein Called The Art of Natural Healing.  If people only knew what was actually in commercial food they wouldn't touch the stuff with a 10 foot pole.  Did you know that commercial foods are loaded with euthanized pets?  Not only is that just plain wrong but also the drug used to euthanize these animals is being consumed by your pet.  It is also interesting to note that my guys stools do not smell, I learned the reason for this from his book.  My food is not flavored with rancid fast food grease just to get them to eat it, that's where the 'wonderful' odor comes from.

That was my soapbox rant for the day!  Probably a bit more than you asked for but hope it helps anyhow!  ;)
