My cat licks all the time

Question
  Hi Barbara,

My cat Lucky has a problem.  He's a mixed breed about 6 years old.  He licks himself all the time and is licking off his fur.  He has medium-length fur.  The poor guy - he's driving me crazy and I'm sure it's uncomfortable for him also.  Could it be he needs a bath?  Change his food?  I haven't given him a bath in about 2 years.

  Thanks very much,

Michael

Answer
Check his coat for fleas and/or scabs. If there are none then it could be either a food allergy or a nervous habit
First thing would be to take him to the vet and get him a checkup and tell the vet all about this condition.
A great cheap food for allergies in cats is IAMS Hairball Food. All of us breeders use it for all kinds of food allergies which cats acquire.

I wish you a lot of luck with this problem. It is a very common problem among cats. Bathing might be helpful if he is greasy, but harmful if his cost is dry or scaley.
Ask the vet for your best information.

Regards,
Barb
