Question
QUESTION: hi my bengal is 6 weeks pregnant, when should i be able to feel the babies moving, and also the dad is a black tom cat and bengal is brown spotted, what colour are the kittens likely to be and how many is the average for a bengal to have thank you

ANSWER: Hi Gail

You should soon start feeling the kittens move, perhaps another week.  I find you can feel them more in the last two weeks of pregnancy.

When you have a crossbred litter its not always possible to predict what colours/patterns you will get but I would hope some of each.

As to the average size of litter, it all depends on the individual but I would suggested from 4 upwards, with an average of 6.

QUESTION: hi thanks for your quick reply, also should there be anythink special i should be doing for her when shes in labor, ive already been feeding her kitten food, she dosent like milk so shes only drinking water and also any more information you think i might need , thanking you gail

Answer
HI Gail

When she goes into labour, you need to be with her in case anything goes wrong and she needs veterinary help. If she hasn't passed a kitten after 2 hours of pushing then you will need to contact the vet.  When a kitten is born make sure the face is cleared of the sack so that it can breath and then let mum clean the kitten up.  She may break the cord herself and eat the placenta which is perfectly normal but if not you may need to break the cord.  Just make sure your hands are clean and then tear the cord with your nails, pulling towards the kitten to make sure you don't pull on the stomach.

Once all the kittens are born I tend to wait until mum comes out of the bed to eat/drink and then slide the dirty bedding out and put some clean in and then transfer the kittens.  Mum will no doubt coming shooting back as the kittens will cry when you transfer them.

Just feed her good quality food and water.  She will be fine then.
