Question
My Alaskan Malamute was diagnosed with "DEMEDEX MANGE". My vet suggests using "Mitaban" My breadder suggest using " IVERMECTIN  INJECTABLE" I was told the total cost of the IVERMECTIN  INJECTABLE would be less than 1 treatment of the Mitaban which would take up to 6 treatments. What would be the dosage and how long would the treatment be for a 90lb. female malamute

Answer
Both mitaban and ivermectin will help treat demodex mange.  Ivermectin has to be given every day and we start the dose very low and work it up. Start at 100 micrograms per kilogram (0.1cc per 10 lbs) for 2 weeks and increase 100 micrograms every 2 weeks to see if the dog can tolerate 600 micrograms, which is the best dose.  That would need to be given for a minimum of 90 days. Either way, it is going to be expensive in a Malamute.
