cat not landing on feet

Question
Just wondering about this: every time I've seen my 2-year old male cat fall (from the stairs or off a table by accident), he never seems to land on his feet. He's not overweight or unhealthy, and I've seen him fall on his back a couple of times. He's fine jumping and getting around, but he's clumsy and seems to not have the balance that most cats have. Even short falls (off the coffee table) he can't land on his feet...is this something I should be concerned about?

Answer
While this is something to be concerned about, the problem is can anything be done about it?

If you haven't done so already, I would have a good work-up done on him to see if he has some vestibular disease going on. He could have that or other inner ear problems.

You didn't say whether or not this was a new development, so the best advice I can give you is to have him looked over. Cats do develop ear tumors etc. So better to be safe then sorry.
