My cat is sick and acting funny

Question
My cat is normally very obnoxiously vocal and had kittens about 6 weeks ago. This morning I woke up and she was just laying around and didn't meow at all. Then when I put out milk like I do every morning it didn't even phase her, same when I filled up the cat food and I seen that she threw up. She'll let me pet her a little and then get up and lay about a foot away from me. It looks like she is breathing funny. The only thing I can think of that I left out was Queso Dip. So do you have any idea what is wrong with her?

Answer
I can't tell you is wrong with your cat in that way but I can give you some ideas. I don't think eating Queso Dip would make her sick.

You mentioned she had kittens 6 weeks ago, but are they weaned or are they still nursing on her? They may be draining her too much at this point (physically and nutrient wise) and should be gone from her.
Her nutritional levels have to be very high to keep up with kittens this age. She would have to be on a high quality kitten food such as Science Diet Kitten Growth.

Feeding her milk is not a good idea as cats are lactose intolerant after they are weaned and milk can cause some gastric upsets.

If she hasn't been spayed yet then she could be in heat. That would make her out of sorts also. If she goes outside then she could have eaten a lizard and that makes cats ill.

Chances are that she needs a better diet and that she is possibly in heat. However, having said that, most of the time an animal pants like that is usually is a sign of pain.

So the bottom line is that she needs to see a vet if these symptoms continue.
