Puncture wound in cat

Question
I have a cat that showed up with a gaping wound on it's side which includes two punctures. The wound has pus coming out of it (clear and white, not green). The wound is not hot to the touch and does not seem to be hurting her (I am not sure why). I have cleand it with peroxide and treated it with antibiotic ointment. I am planning to give it a shot of penecillen, but am not sure how many cc's to inject her with. Am I on the right track, and what else do you reccomend?

Answer
Pure penicillin is not the best drug for this but it is better than nothing. Be very careful about giving cats this drug. Do not get it into a vein or the cat will die.
One shot isn't enough. When treating abscesses like these you need to give a dose over 10 days which is why we use oral drugs or ones you can put in the food. A dose twice a day for 10 days is needed. My Allen's book of drugs states that the regular dosage of Most Penicillins is 20,000 units/kg twice a day, IM.
I am not a vet so I cannot tell you what to give her- but I am passing on what the book says. Use at your own risk.
I hope she gets well. My main advice would be for you to take her in and have this cleaned out, sutured and have her tested for leukemia.
Cats that carry this virus are very prone to abscesses.
