sore on bottom

my mini dashund has a really deep sore on his butt. it isn't oozing or anything. it looks like a sore you would find on an elderly person in a nursing home. he is constantly licking it and it is painful for us to touch it. i have peroxided it and i have put neosporne on it. he is still active, doesn't effect his walking, still plays hard with us and his toys. should i be terrible worried that this is a disease of some kind?

Hi Tammy:  It is hard to tell without looking at the area in question.  I could guess it may be a "hot spot" on his bottom.  You have cleaned the area well and placed neosporin.  Good Job.  If it doesn't get better in 3 days, then call the VET for an appointment.

Also, if the area is hot and has any pus, please call the vet.

Also, your baby may be allergic to foods or the environment.  ( grass, dirt, pollin, even carpeting...)
