new born pups

my dog gave birth 2 days ago and i dont think she is producing milk, the pups are very unsettled and so is mum, and the pups are getting very thin, she lost her last littler this way 2 years ago, is there any medication i can give her to get her to produce milk, i will be phoning my vets later but there not open for another 3 hours, many thanks sue

Your veterinarian can try to give an injection of Oxytocin to see if that will let the milk down.  You will need to make sure to supplement the puppies with milk replacer or they will not survive....they should eat every 2-3 hours.  You should also be weighing the pups every day to make sure they are gaining weight.   You can feed mum puppy food to give her extra calories to help her maintain her weight and get extra vitamins and minerals while nursing.  I would highly recommend getting her dewormed as it is very likely that she may have intestinal parasites.

Lastly, she should not be bred again since this is the second time she has had problems, it is likely to happen again.
