Question
my family just bought a dog whom has been to a Vet because he had really bad allergies.(To the point that he started losing his hair/ skin started turning black from the yeast infection. They put him on a proscription diet only. But he smells really bad almost like yeast even after a bath. What can I do to make the smells go away? He is making everything in the house smell the same way.

Answer
Your dogs needs a special shampoo from the vet for this. The skin has a real issue right now due to this yeast infection and until it calms down from medication and diet this won't go away. Maleseb is a prescription shampoo that will help your dog to feel and smell better.

There are many shampoos that the vet has that are for this condition. If he has true seborrheic dermatitis this is a life-long condition that will need constant treatment.
Here is a tip for shampooing dogs with these shampoos:

Primary Seborrheic Dermatitis requires treatment for the dog's entire life. There is no cause for the condition, but it can be controlled through the use of shampoos and moisturizers. Malaseb shampoo has proven to be an effective shampoo for the treatment and control of this skin condition. It can be used on dogs as well as on cats and horses. The shampoo should initially be used two or three times a week. As the severity of the condition lessens, then the frequency of use can be lessened. In order for the shampoo to be effective, it is also necessary to make sure that it stays on the skin for 10 to 15 minutes before being rinsed off.

After using the shampoo, use a moisturizer or an after-bath rinse to help retain the moisture and natural oils in your dog's skin. Even during treatment, be sure to carefully watch your dog's skin. It is possible for the condition to worsen during treatment. If this occurs, be sure to see your veterinarian right away to determine a better healing method for your dog.

You must be diligent about shampooing the dog and then drying him off. Benedryl also helps. It takes three weeks for the food to kick in so you will see some improvement then from the food.

This is a hard thing to deal with at times but your dog is relying on you and your family to help him and make him feel better. When he feels better your house will start smelling better and so will he.
